Résumé
This research work presents the recomposition of the countryside. The thesis, which is presented, deals with the new prospects of the countryside and is based on a dual study. On the one hand it is about space and time, and on the other hand about culture. The landscape is seen both as a concept which enables to analyse the transformations and the factors of renewal of the countryside, and it is also seen as a matter of interest for the population which relates the ties to space which are theirs. Thus, the countryside has gone through two major changes these last 40 years. On the one hand, agriculture still shapes the land but it has a less uniform impact--there is a more diffuse and unequal presence due to intensification and decline. On the other hand, sociology and demography have a real impact on the prospects of the countryside: the integration of the land to urban spaces, directly linked to the residents, has an effect on the ideas, the practices and the meaning of these territories. Through a comparison between a study in France and another one in Quebec, it seems these sociological and spatial factors linked to the countryside tend to merge and to take part in the proprietary interests of the landscape since there is a real environmentalist craze for the countryside, but the relation of societies to time and identity leaves a different mark on the land. Close territorial paths do not necessarily entail the same values, which differentiates local identities. Key-words: 'agriculture, changes, cultural geography, heritage, identity, landscape, population, rural, space, social geography, territory. '
