Fonds comprises artwork created by graphic illustrator Anita Kunz. Included are watercolour portraits of political leaders Jean Chrétien, Stephen Harper, Ralph Klein and George W. Bush, and entrepreneur Kenneth Thomson. These were featured on the covers of both American and Canadian news magazines. Also included are twelve limited edition giclée prints focussing primarily on conceptual ideas such as gun control and pregnancy. Other artwork in the fonds includes original pencil and pen and ink drawings that were later developed into colour illustrations. There are also many other prints, including exhibition and artist profile promotional items, book jackets and publication cover proof prints and a small amount of correspondence.

Also contained in the art records are twenty-nine posters created by Kunz both for commercial campaigns and to advertise exhibitions in which Kunz was featured. These include design shows as far-reaching as Indiana and Japan.

Kunz, Anita, 1956- : Anita Kunz was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1956. As a child, she was greatly influenced by her uncle Robert Kunz who was an illustrator working in the field of educational publishing. She attended the Ontario College of Art and graduated in 1978. Over the next decade, the graphic designer's work appeared in a variety of well-established Canadian magazines such as Saturday Night and Toronto Life. Her client base expanded to include international designs firms and advertising agencies in Germany, Japan, Sweden, England and France. From 1988 to 1990, she was one of two artists selected by Rolling Stone Magazine to produce a monthly illustrated "History of Rock 'n Roll" endpaper. Her work began to regularly appear on the covers of Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, the Atlantic Monthly, Fortune, GQ, Newsweek, and the New Yorker magazine.

The artist has received numerous awards and honours for her illustrations. In 1997, she was awarded the Les Usherwood Lifetime Achievement Award from the Advertising and Design Club of Canada. The Society of Illustrators Museum of American Illustration mounted a mid-career retrospective of her work in New York in 2000. She was awarded a solo exhibition at the Creation Gallery in Tokyo, Japan. Further, in the fall of 2003, Kunz was the first woman and the first Canadian to be given a one-person show at the Swann Gallery for Caricature and Cartoon, Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Her work may be found in many permanent collections including the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, the Musée Militaire de France in Paris and the Galleria Comunale d'Arte Moderna in Rome.

In tandem with her published illustrations, Kunz frequently conducts workshops and lectures at universities and institutions, both nationally and internationally. She continues to serve on numerous panels and Boards of Directors dedicated to graphic illustration.

Kunz works primarily in small scale and with watercolour and gouache. Her artwork displays a luxury of detail which famed graphic designer Milton Glaser describes as almost Flemish in its execution and finish. The artist is equally at home creating pointed political and celebrity portraits as she is with strong conceptual designs on such critical social issues as gun control and genetic research.

Kunz's work has also been featured on several postage stamps issued by Canada Post, including as recently as the Great Canadian Illustrators issue of April 2018.
