Fonds consists of films produced by Insight Production Company Ltd. under the leadership of Pen Densham and John Watson between 1969 and 1986. Included are short experimental and documentary films. Fonds also consists of television productions in all genres produced by Insight Production Company Ltd. under the leadership of John Brunton, from 1986 onward. Included are documentary programs, dramatic shorts, pilots and serials, and television specials.

Insight Production Company : Insight Production Company Ltd., an independent production company based in Toronto, Ontario, was established in 1970 by Penray "Pen" Densham and John Kingsley Watson. In 1973 the company gained recognition for the documentary film Life Times Nine, which received two Academy Award nominations. In December 1978 John McLeod Brunton, Jr., assistant editor and director with Insight, bought the rights to the company from Densham and Watson, becoming President of Insight. In the mid 1980s Barbara McLeod Bowlby, sister to John Brunton, joined Insight to handle financing and accounting. Her position soon changed to that of Executive Vice-President and Co-Executive Producer. Since 1979, Insight has produced for television a number of programs in all genres including live music shows, award shows, game show, dramas, documentaries and serials including Pumped!, Ready or Not, Canadian Idol, The Juno Awards, World Idol, the Sean Cullen Show, and Open Mike with Mike Bullard. In this time, Insight has also won many prestigious awards including numerous Gemini Awards, four Gemini Awards, four Emmy nominations for Target Stars on Ice, an Academy Award nomination for Don't Mess with Bill, several Cable Ace Awards, six American Film Festival ribbons and various other film and television awards.

Note générale :

Some of this material was part of the Canadian Film Institute's (CFI) transfer to the National Archives on May 12, 1975. The CFI received the material from Insight Productions in 1973. The National Archives received the rest of the material from Insight Production Company Ltd. between 1979 and 2006.
