This accession consists of records generated by various Canadian National Railways departments and affiliate rail lines.
The files of the Colonization and Agriculture Department/Canadian National Land Settlement Association detail the settlement of certain European families in the Province of Alberta during the late 1920s, early 1930s and contain promotional materials for lands that were put up for sale (ca. 1959) in the Athabasca, Big Valley, Camrose and other districts within the Province. Also included is a report for an agricultural survey that was undertaken by CN in Neidpath, Saskatchewan during 1945.
The real estate holdings include Land and Property Department reports (ca. 1933) for land grants, townsite lands and miscellaneous properties owned by CN across Canada.
Also included is an accumulation of miscellaneous blank and used baggage tags and similar items (ca. 1906) for various CN and related rail and steamship lines.
An additional category includes various copies of Acts of Establishment, Memorandums of Agreement, Mortgage Deeds, Charter and By-Laws of the Atlantic and St. Lawrence Railroad Company, and its lease to the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada (1850s, 1890s).
The photo accession consists of two albums of European families settled on land in the Provinces of Alberta and Manitoba by the Land Settlement Association of the Canadian National Railways, 1927-1930; 73 identified individual and family portraits taken on their farm and corresponding nitrate negatives of European immigrants (Polish, Hungarian, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Roumanian, Swiss, Austrian, Slovaks, Dutch and Danish settlers) settlled in Saskatchewan, 1926-1935; harvesting and farming activities in Saskatchewan, 1954-1958 - cities and villages include: Sturgis, Morse, Regina, La Ronge, Kipling, Broderick, Rowatt, Indian Head, Leinan, Abernethy, Esterhazy, North Battleford, Maple Creek, Balcarres, Moose Jaw, Macrorie, Kronau, Gull Lake, Davidson, La Loche, Grenfell, Estevan, Rush Lake, Abbey, Humbolt, Moosomin, Craik, Eastend, Cochin, Fort Qu'Appelle, Cumberland, Uranium City, Melville and Lipton - and one album of Dutch immigrants settled in Southern Ontario, 1958.
