This album, comprised of 42 pages on which 149 photographs are mounted, consists of photographs showing the gradual development of the settlement of Fort Smith, and especially of its waterfront by Public Works and various corporations. Photos by a number of people: O.S. Finnie (1921, 1925); D.L. McKeand (1921); L.T. Burwash (1930); J.D. Soper (1932); M. Meikle (1921, 1937 - 1941, 1943 - 1946); A.L. Cumming (1939); J.F. Moran (1922, 1926, 1930); A.H. Perry (1938); Father Lefebvre (1934); G.M. Douglas (1928); D.H. Christie (1925); H.F. Lambert (1937); Imperial Oil Ltd. (1937); J.A. Urquhart (1940, 1942 - 1943); and A.H. Gibson (1945). The majority of these photographs are by M. Meikle and span almost a decade, from 1937 - 1946. There are also a lot of O.S. Finnie photographs from 1921. There are three aerial shots of Forth Smith by the R.C.A.F. A lot of the Meikle waterfront photographs can be found in album 27, "Fort Smith and Waterfront".

The following places in Fort Smith can be found in the album: Union Bank of Canada; King's sawmill; Hudson's Bay Company buildings; Conibear House (old and new); waterfront and docks; Slave River; Club Café confectionery; administration buildings; government quarters (interiors too); Roman Catholic hospital and mission; Roman Catholic mission farm (with cattle); Fort Smith (aerial).

The following events can be found in the album: cutting hay at mission farm; waterfront scenes; building barges; construction by Public Works; ice breaking up at waterfront; tank being lowered into barge; loading freight; road construction; landslide; planes at docks.

The following objects can be found in the album: park ranger's cabin; tennis court; S.S. Radium King, vessel; airplane dock; new houses; S.S. Medico, Department of the Interior boat; Mackenzie River, boat; airplanes; hill road to waterfront; Public Works wharf.

The following people can be found in the album: staff of Union Bank of Canada; construction workers.

This album was originally part of accession 1974-366, which had been integrated into 1973-357. It has since been separated back into the two individual accessions of 1973-357 and 1974-366.
