LAC Committees and Advisory Groups

Background

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) carries out its work with the advice and support of a network of committees and advisory groups from across the documentary heritage community. By offering their time, their ideas and their expertise, the members of these committees make an invaluable contribution to LAC.

  • LAC Indigenous Advisory Circle: The Circle provides advice, guidance and feedback to LAC on the direction and priorities of its Indigenous-related documentary heritage activities. (e.g. Indigenous Heritage Action Plan, Indigenous language and cultural recordings). The Steering Committee on Indigenous Cultures and Language Initiatives is a LAC sub-committee of the Circle composed of the Deputy Librarian and Archivist of Canada and LAC senior management.

Considerations

Communication/strategic coordination: There are opportunities to enhance coordination and/or communication between all LAC advisory groups that could help advance LAC priorities. For example, how can LAC include youth (LAC’s future users) perspectives/insights into all LAC business lines, not just via the Youth Advisory Council?

LAC’s four sector heads, with the LAC advisory group chairs/leads should identify communication gaps, business needs, and strategic approaches for better horizontal coordination between all LAC advisory groups.
