Cataloguing in Publication

Cataloguing in Publication (CIP) is a voluntary program of cooperation between publishers and libraries, coordinated by Library and Archives Canada. It enables the cataloguing of books before they are published, and allows for the prompt distribution of cataloguing information to booksellers and libraries.

Important notices

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is in the process of adopting a new library management system. Please note that transitioning to the new system may be associated with some temporary delays in the processing of CIP requests beginning in September 2018. In order to assist LAC in meeting your publication deadlines, please apply for CIP as early as possible.

In addition, LAC has developed a reformatted and modernized CIP data block which presents data in a more user-friendly manner through the use of labels. It will be released in the fall of 2018. More information will be available on our website at that time.
