Safety measures

Please DO NOT come in if you have COVID-19 symptoms or are awaiting test results, have been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or is awaiting test results, have travelled abroad in the last 14 days, or have been asked to self-isolate by public health authorities.

Rooms and collections

  • Before you reserve your seat, make sure you have your user number ready; complete your User Card Registration if you do not already have a user card.
  • Not all collections and rooms are available. Please see below for details and opening hours.
Textual Consultation Room (3rd floor)
  • Reservations are available from Tuesday to Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm, and 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Consult published material and non-restricted archival documents.
  • Public computers are available for searching LAC databases and accessing LAC subscriptions
  • Request your archival and/or published material through the Material Retrieval Request form within 24 hours of booking your reservation, unless you already have material on site from a previous visit.
Restricted Consultation Room (3rd floor)
  • Reservations are available from Tuesday to Friday, 9 am to 12 pm, and 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Reserve to consult restricted government or private archives only if you are a departmental researcher or have received authorization.
  • Request your archival and/or published material through the Material Retrieval Request form within 24 hours of booking your reservation, unless you already have material on site from a previous visit.
Access to Microform Collection (3rd floor)
  • Reservations are available from Tuesday to Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm, and 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Consult the documents of the collection in microfilm or microfiche format.
  • Use microform scanners to view documents or make free digital copies (you must bring your own USB key).
  • Request your microfilm reels or microfiches within 24 hours of your reservation by completing the Material Retrieval Request form.
Reference Room (2nd floor)
  • Reservations are available on Tuesday and Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm, and 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Consult finding aids for government and private archives, city directories, and Orders-in-Council registers
  • Public computers are available for searching LAC databases and accessing LAC subscriptions.
  • When you reserve your seat in this room using Eventbrite, you will be asked to include the list of material you need to consult during your visit
Genealogy Room (3rd floor)
  • Reservations are available from Tuesday to Thursday, 9 am to 12 pm, and 1 pm to 4 pm
  • Consult specialized genealogy databases and the Genealogy Reference collection.
  • Time limits may be imposed at specialized workstations
  • When completing your booking using Eventbrite, you will be asked to provide the list of material you need to consult during your visit

Rooms and collections not available

  • DigiLab
  • Photos, art, maps and plans, audiovisual material, textual documents from LMS/MUS (literary and music) fonds, preservation collection, rare books, photo index cards (“contact cards”)
