According to the Library and Archives of Canada Act (S.C. 2004, c. 11), section 15.1:
“Every department, as defined in section 2 of the Financial Administration Act, shall, within six months after the completion of any data collection done for the purposes of public opinion research carried out under a contract at the request of the department and for the exclusive use of Her Majesty in right of Canada, send to the Librarian and Archivist the written report referred to in subsection 40(2) of the Financial Administration Act.”
The Directive on the Management of Communications, Appendix C: Mandatory Procedures for Public Opinion Research, requires departments to “provide [...] Library and Archives Canada [with] separate electronic copies in English and French of POR projects for all contracted research projects within six months after the completion of any data collection” (section C.2.11).
All public opinion research (POR) reports submitted to Library and Archives Canada (LAC) are simultaneously transmitted to the Library of Parliament.
The Public Opinion Research Contract Regulations (SOR/2007-134), section 4(b), require LAC to publish completed POR projects on this website.
