Guy Berthiaume awarded the IFLA Medal

On November 5, Mr. Guy Berthiaume, Librarian and Archivist of Canada Emeritus, received the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Medal.

The IFLA Media is awarded to a person or organization that has made a distinguished contribution either to IFLA or to international librarianship.

This honour was bestowed in recognition of his energy, expertise, commitment and outstanding contribution to IFLA, as well as for his achievements as National Librarian, and for the important role he has played in promoting partnerships with the broader documentary heritage community.

In addition to serving as Chair of IFLA’s National Libraries Section from 2015 to 2019, he also established closer links with the Conference of Directors of National Libraries and led IFLA’s Digital Unification Working Group, whose work led to the adoption of the IFLA Guidelines for Setting Up a Digital Unification Project.

IFLA also highlighted the important role played by Mr. Berthiaume in the Réseau Francophone Numérique, which brings together 30 heritage libraries from 20 member countries of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie.
