This database provides access to approximately 25,000 pages of official administrative directives concerning the Canadian Post Office published between 1759 and 1900.

About the Directives
These directives come primarily from three types of publications:
- Canadian Official Postal Guides (1863 to 1900)
- administrative circulars (1812 to 1900)
- federal government publications
These publications, digitized in both official languages, when available, provide access to over 675 documents.

Search Help
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) has been used on each document to allow you to search for specific terms, such as the name of a postmaster or post office. Try combining your search term with a date to narrow the list of results.
You can search the database with these variables:
- Search Term
Enter a search term (e.g. "postage rate") or part of a term (e.g. "post")
- Year
Only one year can be chosen at a time or choose the default "All"
- Month
Only one month can be chosen at a time or choose the default "All"
- Day
Only one day can be chosen at a time or choose the default "All"
- Document Type
This field allows you to restrict your search by selecting a type of document:
- All
- Circulars
- Postal Guides
- Publications
- When you have entered your search terms, select the "Search" button.
Each search will provide you with the following information:
- Item number
- Date (yyyy-mm-dd)
- Document Title
- Page Number
