Library and Archives Canada's collections of Canadian newspapers are the most extensive in the country. They include newspapers in original newsprint as well as on microfilm and microfiche. The collections contain a wide variety of titles including community, regional, ethnic, Aboriginal and student newspapers. The Halifax Gazette, Canada's first newspaper; the Canada Gazette, the official newspaper of the Government of Canada; and The Provincial Freeman, an antislavery newspaper, are just a few examples.
