Available services

We can help you:

  • Digitize existing recordings

Your existing culture and language recordings will be digitized at our Preservation Centre in Gatineau, Quebec.

We try to digitize Indigenous culture and language recordings for all who are interested. Our priority is to digitize recordings that are endangered, held in improper storage or in rare formats. We also prioritize digitization for communities that have language learning programs or activities. Rare formats may require digitization offsite.

  • Store digital files

If you do not have the technical capacity to store or manage the digital preservation files of your recordings, we offer deposit storage on our servers. We will return the files when requested.

Who is eligible

First Nations, Inuit and M├ętis Nation organizations, individuals, collectors and creators with Indigenous culture and language recordings.

How to get free services

To get free digitization services from LAC, please complete the Digitization Services Form (PDF 191 KB) to help us learn about your collection. After you complete the form, email it to us (see Contact Us). We will contact you shortly to confirm your eligibility.

Next, you will need to compile a file list of your recordings so we can get a detailed sense of the material you have and its condition. Following that, we will create a digitization terms of agreement. Then you can ship the recordings to LAC to digitize. We will return all original and digital files to you.
