    Accession consists of central registry files related to the National Aeronautical Establishment from the first NRC classification system and the block numeric system. Included from the first system are files from the 2 block (Mechanical Engineering - including research files on a variety of topics); 3 block (Associations, Clubs, Societies - including the Advisory Committee on Structures and Materials Research, etc); the 4 block (Committees Operating Under Council Funds - including the Advisory Committee on Composite Materials, etc); and the 49 block (National Aeronautical Establishment - including correspondence, research into wind tunnels, other research studies, etc). From the block numeric system are files from the 1450 block (Associations, Clubs and Societies); the 4000 block (National Aeronautical Establishment - including various Institutes, research, etc); the 6000 block (Associate Committees - including the Associate Committee on Aerodynamics); and the 1400 block (Administration).

    General Note:
    The National Aeronautical Establishment (NAE) was created in 1951. Reporting to the NRC's Director of Mechnical Engineering, the NAE was to serve as a co-ordinating and policy-making body, as well as a forum for the exchange of ideas, for the Department of National Defence, the defence Research Board, the Department of Transport and the National Research Council.
