    Miss Maggie Jones is dressed as a ¿Bonnie Fishwife of New Haven¿ for a fancy dress ball hosted by Lord and Lady Dufferin on February 23, 1876.
    Description of Miss Jones¿ outfit on page 2 in the February 24th, 1876 edition of the Ottawa Free Press: ¿Jones, Miss Maggie as Maggie-McFarlane, a bonnie fish wife from New Haven. Yellow petticoat, striped with black, scarlet overskirt and white apron; white kerchief on the neck; scarlet handkerchief with blue border, and white cap on the head; scarlet stockings, shoes and buckles; creel on back, with fish, etc.¿

    Although the Earl of Dufferin's Grand Fancy Ball took place on February 23, 1876, photographs of costumed individuals and groups were taken after the event itself. While the majority were taken in February and March, some of the guests were also photographed in April.
