Collection search - [Maps and plans of Indian reserves in eastern Canada] [cartographic material, architectural drawing, technical drawing]

Accession consists of maps and plans removed from the files of the Central Registry of the Indian Affairs Branch (Red Series). The records deal with almost all aspects of Indian affairs in eastern Canada, primarily between 1872 and 1930. The maps, which range from hand-drawn sketches to blueprints and published sheets, document surveys, surrenders, boundary changes and disputes over Indian lands. Also given is information on land occupancy and ownership, and the situation of buildings, gardens, cemeteries, etc. Architectural drawings relate to schools, hospitals, agent houses, churches, Council houses, saw mills and other buildings. Engineering plans depict such projects as bridges, culverts, docks, walls, and other constructions. The majority of the items relate to Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick; a small number relate to British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island.
