Ms. Cousture will be the guest of Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada, for the Signatures Interviews, which offer unique encounters with Canadian personalities who have donated their archives to LAC. These interviews are an excellent way to discover hidden treasures in the collection.
The Arlette Cousture fonds documents her entire career. It includes manuscripts, typescripts and correspondence relating to her books and published texts, as well as a few unpublished works.
The fonds also contains the author’s historical research files, including letters and photographs of Émilie Bordeleau, Ovila Pronovost and their families. In addition, the fonds includes archives of Ovide Pronovost (Ovila’s brother), genealogical research notes by Caleb Bordeleau, as well as notes from Blanche Bordeleau, Arlette’s mother, who inspired the novel and the subsequent television series.
This interview is a unique opportunity to see documents and objects from Ms. Cousture’s fonds and to examine the creative process that led to her landmark work.
