    Inuk man posing with unfinished sculpture of a woman wearing an amauti (women's parka with large hood) and a polished sculpture of two people. Photograph was taken at the Rehab Center in Iqaluit, Nunavut (formerly Frobisher Bay, Northwest Territories).

    An amauti (also spelled amaut or amautik) is a type of parka, traditionally worn by the Inuit women of the Eastern Arctic, with a large hood for carrying children.
    Dates of creation note:
    Gimpel records in his notebook that he photographed carvers in Frobisher Bay (now Iqaluit) on April 9, 1964.
