    General Note:
The Vancouver Port Corporation (VPC) is a crown corporation established in 1983 under the provisions set forth in the Canada Ports Corporation Act. As a functional entity controlling the administration of the Port of Vancouver, the VPC is the successor to several previous federal port authorities which have administered the harbour since 1913. The mandate of the VPC is to serve a national ports policy, relative to Canadian trade objectives, while being sensitive to the social and economic interests of Vancouver.
Opening in November of 1989 the Port of Vancouver Archives operated at its Ballantyne Pier location until its closure in March of 1993. This multiple media accession consists of the entire holdings of the former, VPC archives as transferred to the National Archives of Canada, upon its closing. These records are a mixture of private and corporate material related to all aspects of port activity over the course of the port's existence and include such record types as moving images, maps, drawings, annual reports, ledgers, central registry files, slides, audio cassettes, plans, negatives, photographic prints, video tapes, reports, minutes, by-laws, photo albums, etc.
In addition, this accession also includes the operational/administrative records of the archives itself such as accession files and subject files.
