    This sub-series consists of negatives created or collected by the Public Liaison Office of the Department of National Defence. The Office was created in 1940 in order to help disseminate information and imagery related to Canadian military activities during the Second World War. The Office continued to operate into the 1960s, when it was discontinued.

    Items in this sub-series are unique from images found in other sub-series in this collection in that the major source of PL images constitute selections of items from other sub-series deemed suitable for press publication and release.

    Custodial history:
    Part of the PL prefix material was transfered in 1967, as part of accession 1967-052, and the remainder of the material was transferrred in 2008 along with other analogue photography from the National Defence Image Library, Canadian Forces Joint Imagery Centre (NDIL / CFJIC)
