    Scope and content:
    The art component of the collection includes historical portrait prints of prominent politicians, explorers, businessmen, military and naval officers, and Governors-General; views of Montreal, Toronto, Quebec City and Niagara; cityscapes and architectural highlights; two Audubon prints; eleven prints by J.M.W. Turner of British scenes; colour prints from the Illustrated London News; prints by George Heriot, John Richard Coke Smyth and Henry James Warre documenting Canadian life and historical events; and prints of ships and steamers. A subsequent accrual comprises a portfolio of coloured lithographs entitled "George Catlin's North American Indian", dating 1844, documenting aspects of native tribes in the Rocky Mountains and prairie region of the United States. The cartographic component of the collection consists of eleven maps and one hydrographic chart of Canada dated between 1565 and 1928. Most of the maps show areas in Central and Eastern Canada. There are French, British and Canadian maps. Includes maps of North America, South America, New France, Newfoundland, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Montreal, Halifax harbour, Port of Restigouche in Bay of Chaleur, and a map of Fort Garry.
