    Series includes letters from Macdonald's son, Hugh John and from other family members. The majority of letters in the series come from other persons, some prominent, others not. Most of the correspondence in the series was written to Macdonald, but a small number of letters were written to Lord Elgin, Lord Dufferin or other figures. The series also includes a few letters to and from Thomas D'Arcy McGee. The letters touch on such subjects as marriage, honours, membership in the Freemasons and remedies for illness.
