Gatineau, July 18, 2012 — Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is pleased to announce that a
new set of images depicting Canada’s sixth Prime Minister, Sir Charles Tupper, is now available on Flickr.
Sir Charles Tupper was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia in 1821.
He entered politics in 1855 and became the Premier of Nova Scotia in 1864.
After Prime Minister Mackenzie Bowell resigned in 1896, Tupper was appointed to the position by Governor General, Lord Aberdeen. That same year an election was held and the Liberals won the election. He remained Leader of the Opposition until 1901.
