Starting July 29: New access hours in the restricted documents consultation room at 395 Wellington

Library and Archives Canada (LAC) is currently reviewing the way restricted documents found in archival records are being made available to researchers that visit 395 Wellington in Ottawa. We are implementing new processes that are better aligned with the Government of Canada’s security standards, while offering researchers high quality services.

LAC has refined its procedures for verifying the identity of researchers consulting restricted documents. The consultation room has also been refitted to ensure both the researcher’s privacy and the protection of information during consultation. Please note that LAC’s staff will be present in the room to supervise the consultation and the handling of the material, while providing advice and guidance to researchers if needed.

As of July 29, 2019, the restricted documents consultation room hours of service at 395 Wellington in Ottawa will change to the following:

Monday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Wednesday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday – No service
Statutory holidays – No service

This applies to:

  • classified government documents consulted by authorized researchers only;
  • private archival document restricted by the donor contract accessible to authorized researchers only.

Accessibility and service hours for all other rooms at our Ottawa location will remain unchanged. Visit our On-site Visit page for more information.
