What’s new in the collection: the summer 2018 edition is out!

We are pleased to tell you about the newest items in our collection.

What happens when members of a musical group become the main characters in a children’s book? Mamaqtuq! is based on a song about the seal hunt. The band The Jerry Cans, who wrote the story, combine Inuit throat singing, folk and country in their music.

We have acquired 20 watercolours by artillery officer Henry E. Baines (1840–1866). These works depict scenes around the city of Québec, where Baines was stationed. This is a nice addition to the Henry E. Baines fonds, already in our collection.

An album of 346 black-and-white photographs is now open for consultation in our archives. It was put together in 1865 by Major Thomas J. Grant (1828–1908) of the British Army’s 6th (Royal First Warwickshire) Regiment during his posting in North America. The album consists of portraits and landscapes primarily created by William Notman and Alexander Henderson.

See the What’s new in the collection section of our website for more information.

Happy discoveries!
