Proclamation of the Constitution Act, 1982
This document recognizes certain fundamental rights and freedoms as part of Canada's patriated Constitution. It was signed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Parliament Hill, Ottawa, on April 17, 1982.

The first Prime Minister of Canada produced the British North America Act, a base document for the Canadian constitution. This rare oil painting is the earliest known portrait of Macdonald at around 27 years of age.

The Queen signed the Proclamation of the Constitution Act, bringing into effect the Canadian constitution and acknowledging Canadian sovereignty.
