Canada. Dept. of National Health and Welfare. International and Emergency Welfare Services Branch : The International and Emergency Welfare Services Branch was created in 1971 through the amalgamation of Emergency Welfare Services, International Welfare Security and International Social Security. In 1974, the Branch was divided into four sections: Liaison with Non-Governmental Agencies, Intergovernmental Liaison, International Social Security, and Emergency Welfare Services. In 1975, a further re-organization led to the creation of the Federal-Provincial Relations and the Bureau of International Liaison (Welfare). The former was responsible for ensuring communication between deputy ministers of social welfare and provide liaison between various federal and provincial departments. The latter coordinated all Canadian participation in international activities relating to health and welfare, such as the various International Years (Child, Women, Disabled) and United Nations committees, and was composed of the International Liaison, International Social Security, and Program Information units. In 1977, the branch was merged with International Health Services to create the Intergovernmental and International Affairs Branch.
