Library and Archives Canada and the University of Ottawa Press invite you to the book launch of Islam in the West: Beyond Integration by Zijad Delić. The event will be hosted by Adrian Harewood, co-host of CBC News Ottawa.

Islam in the West: Beyond Integration presents a vibrant discussion on the most debated issues regarding Canadian Muslims and their faith—Islam in modern Canada. The need has never been greater to explore the origins of Canadian Muslims, who have been in Canada since before Confederation, and the concepts of Muslim identity, integration, citizenship, belonging and loyalty, in the here and now. The book examines some of these issues in detail, raising questions for both Canadian Muslims and the wider Canadian society, and offers substantial material for an open and democratic discourse.

Imam Zijad Delić: is a resident scholar and imam in Ottawa, as well as a doctoral student at the University of Ottawa. He is an educator who wants to tell his story, and thus the story of Canadian Muslims. Delić was twice selected as one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. He was recognized by the Province of Ontario for a decade of volunteer work, and he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
